Getting IT Right...

It is very easy to see when something is wrong. IT is very easy to criticise. But how do you get IT right, whatever IT is, and how do you know IT is right. And how do you keep IT right!

Here are some feelings that I hold, for myself, as possibly painful truths:

- When something is wrong people will do one of two things depending upon whether they care about IT. If they do not care, then IT will die or more likely morph. If they care about IT then they will criticize YOU. They will not criticise IT, because largely they do not know what IT is.

- Getting IT right takes considerable pain, graft and time. And all the time you are largely alone. And often to get IT right you have to move the goalposts, never to return.

- When something is right everything else thinks, "that's easy, what's the problem, that's the way we have always done it" - except they haven't, ever.

- Being right is a magical mix, an intangible something. And unfortunately being right is not permanent, it may often be very brief.

- Even when IT is right some will say IT is wrong.

- Keeping IT right takes the same effort as getting it right. And still you are alone. The reason being that keeping IT right is simply going to the next level.

- In the end there is no end, only the road, the lonely that leads there. Along that road relax and enjoy the wayside inns, you deserve them and you need the brief respite they offer.
